SAND TESTING
We collected sand from the top of the beach, the
middle of the beach, and the bottom of the beach. The sand on top
was hot, and dry. The sand in the middle was almost the same, but
a little more moist. The sand on the bottom, nearest to the ocean
was very moist and kind of squishy.
Sand
Collected From The Beach
After putting the samples in the bags that we were
provided with, we returned to the education center and sifted the
sand. Sifting sand is when you try to find things in the sand
with sifting tools. Also we had a paper plate that was
categorized for the things we found, but we didn’t find much. The
sifting tools can be made by popsicle sticks, chicken wire, and a paper
plate. We found that sifting wet sand was impossible so we could
only sift the sand from the top of the beach.

After that, we looked at it through the microscope
and saw that every grain of sand had its own unique shape, color, and
size. The microscope was very different from the regular kind, it
was more hi-tech and connected to the computer. To find a good
place to take a picture, we had to move the petri dish around under the
microscope. Taking a picture is very simple, all you have to do
is click a button on the computer. Looking at it on the screen
really was amazing.
