* What is the history behind our mascot? How was it selected? When was it selected? Has it ever been changed?
Kaumana Elementary School is the last school you past as you go over to Kona on
the Saddle Road. When I asked many years ago about how we received the Stars as
our mascot -- it was because the observatory is so close and former students
felt as if we were close to the stars as we are elevated above Hilo. I believe
it was selected in the early 50's as former students remember it to always be
the stars. It has never changed.
