Percy Lavon Julian


Percy Lavon Julian was a black inventor. His nationality was African
American. He was born in Montgomery, Alabama on april 11, 1999.
Percy attended elementary school in Birmingham, Alabama. He was only aloud to go up to eighth grade because he was black. And back then the law stated that blacks could only go up to eighth grade in public schools due to intogration. He graduated from DePauw University in 1920. Then he became a chemistry instructer at fisk university. After Fisk he went to Harvard unniversity. There he had gotten a masres degree in chemistry. He had also gotten a ph.D. in 1931 at the university of Veinna, Austria. He then returned DePauw University in 1933. Then Julian conducted reaserch that led to the synthesis of physostigmine that was used to treat glaucoma. It also inproved memory in Alzhiemer’s patients. Julian left DePauw in i936 to become director of research of the Soya Products Division of the Glidden Company in Chicago.
Julian’s parents were Elizabeth Lenna Adums and James sumner julian. He was the oldest of six children. His grampa was an african american slave to a white man. He got married at age 36 to a women named Anna Roselle Johnson on December 24,1935. Julian had two kids with Anna. They were Percy Lavon Julian, jr. and Percy Faith Julian. Percy Lavon Julian, jr. was born in 1940 and percy Faith Julian was born 1944.
Some of Julians other accomplishments were that he invented Aero-foam. This was used in world war II. He also found another use for physostigmine was that it was also an antidote for nerve gas. Some interestingfacts in Julian’s life were that he was also known for his synthesis of cortisone made from soy beans He was awarded over 115 patents. And 130 chemical patents. Percy Lavon Julian was inducted into the inventors hall of fame in 1990.
One of Julian’s worst experiences were that Julian and his wife and kids had been through with his wife and family was that he had just gotten a new house near Oak Park and it was bombed. No one was hurt.
Percy Lavon Julian Dioed at Waukegan, Illinois on April 19, 1975 of liver cancer.


LEWIS H. LATIMER


Lewis Latimer is a African American inventor. He was born on September 4, 1848 in chelsea, Massachusetts. He died on December, 11,1928 in New york, New York. On december,10,1873 lewis latimer married Mary Wilson Latimer. Then he had two daughters there names were Jeanette and louise. Lewis Latimer invented the water closets for railroad cars ( toilet ). He also invented the carbon filament for light bulbs,
so that the light bulbs can last longer. Like for a month or year because when Thomas .A. Edison did it would only last a couple of hours or a day.

Lewis Latimer had a pretty interesting life. His life had great things and bad things. Lewis Latimer met Alexander Graham Bell who hired him to help draw plans for his new invention the telephone. Lewis was a draftsman, engineer, author, poet, musician and at the same time a devoted family man and philanthropist. In 1992 failing eyesight ended his career, his health began to fail to following the death of his beloved wife Mary Wilson Latimer 1924.

 


Joseph Lee


Joseph Lee was born in 1840 Boston Massachusetts. He grew up working in bakeries and restraunts usually as a bussboy and waiter. When Joseph got older he owned two sucsesfull businesses in Boston. In 1960 Lee sold his businesses and started a small cattering business.

Joseph noticed that he was waisting so much bread. He decided he was going to invent a breadcrum maker. He had to take some time off his job to expeirament on his invention. Joseph got his invention patent on June 4,1903. His business ran smoothly with his knew invention.
Josheph Lee died in 1905.
