Lesson Plan: Integrated lessons in Science, Writing -Poetry, Art (watercolors), and technology.
Science: Students did research on marine or endangered animals . They accessed
data from the school library, classroom library, videos, and the internet.
Writing: They learned to write using descriptive language including simile's , metaphors, and personafication. They wrote in the writing notebooks first.
After revising and editing, they used
Technology: Clarisworks and typed their poems themselves
using word processing.
Art: Each student learned to use watercolors to create his/her unique illustration of
the marine or endangered animal they had studies and for which they had
written a poem. Each child was encouraged to use own creative talent and imagina-tion to create his own illustration.
I scanned the watercolors and they were matched with the students' poems.
Time lline:
The research took about 3 weeks, the writing about 2 weeks, the word processing
another 3 or 4 weeks. The watercolors were worked on after the research and
took 2 sessions. The poems were written with the watercolors as inspiration.
