Ants

Ant World

The ants are insects because all insects have six legs. All ants have six legs and antennae and an abdomen and a thorax.

The ants life cycle starts like this, first the ant hatches from it's egg, then that ant becomes a grub. The grub becomes a worker ant or a soldier ant. Then a few weeks or years later that ant dies.

Ants eat dead things and maybe leaves. Ants eat honeydew, fungus and parts of trees. Leaf cutter ants eat leaves. First the ant finds the food, then he goes back to the colony. But on the way to the colony he drops these little things that have a scent. The ants know that scent means food. So they follow the scent to the food and they bring a lot back.

The Ants live in an ant hill also called an ant colony. An ant colony has one queen ant, soldier ants and a lot of worker ants.

Their enemy or predator is an anteater. Ants have other enemies too, like a spider and a Rove beetle. Even people are ants enemies. Some other ants are ants enemies. Even a chimpanzee fishes out ants with a stick then eats the ants.

I think the anteater got it's name because it eats ants. Did you know that there are different kinds of ants like red ants and black ants? Did you know that sometimes red ants and black ants fight? They don't really get along. If you get bitten by a soldier red ant it will hurt for five minutes. Did you know that ants are very, very strong for their size? Did you know that there are about ten thousand different kinds of ants in the whole wide world? Did you know that Amazon ants attack other ants? Do you know that some ants have stingers with poisonous liquid to defend themselves.

There are some kinds of ants called bottle workers. They store something that looks like honey.

Did you know that some ants eat wood? Did you know that some ants sleep in a web? Some ants grab leaves with their jaws and make a web out of it's larvae to attach it, then they sleep in the web!

When the male mates with the queen ant the queen's wings fall off and she starts a new colony. Did you know that an ant can lift ten times it's own weight? That's like a five year old lifting two grown men! Did you know that an ant could be black or blue or brown or red or even yellowish or greenish? Pretty weird colors huh?

The Amazing World Of Ants

The ants are from the insect family. The ants body parts are, the abdomen, the thorax and the head. They also have legs and simple eyes. They breathe with things called spiracles that are little holes on their thorax and abdomen.

Queen ants lay about two thousand eggs a day. When the eggs are in the nursery they get licked to keep them warm. When they come out they look like little slimy worms. Then they spin a cocoon and later emerge as adults. They mostly come out as workers. Only one will be the new queen.

The soldier ants guard the colony. They make sure that no predators get in, like lady bugs and anteaters an sometimes other ants.

Some ants can live in concrete cracks, and some live in two foot ant hills. The ant hills look like volcano craters. Maybe sometime you can measure them!

The ants you might see walking around are female ants. Ants can lift ten times their body weight. If you could lift that much you could lift a car!

About Ants

The ants body parts are the abdomen, thorax, head , mandible, legs, compound eyes and their simple eyes. The abdomen is half of their body length.

The life cycle starts with the egg, larva, cocoon and finally the adult. The egg stage is when the queen lays the eggs. The cocoon part is when they make a cocoon. Inside they change to an adult and emerge by eating the cocoon.

Ants eat lots of things, they eat lots of our food. Some ants eat bugs and all kinds of things.

Some ants make their homes out of sand and ants live in your homes.

Their enemies are beetles, spiders and some mammals like chimpanzees and anteaters. We are their enemies because some of us kill them.

There are different kinds of ants, like worker ants, soldier ants, leaf cutter ants and in all ten thousand different kinds of ants. There is a Bulldog ant in Australia, when it attacks it poisons it's prey. It also chases people!

The queen is the biggest ant. When a queen lays another queen it also has wings. Sometimes the queen mates with a male. Then her wings fall off and also the male dies.

Ants are very strong, they can carry stuff ten times their own weight. If you were as strong as an ant you could carry a car!

Ants Make Me Do The Hula Dance

Ants are insects. Insects have six legs. Insects are invertebrates and they lay eggs. They all have antennae. An ant also has an abdomen, thorax and head. Ants have a complete metamorphosis. All insects, even ants, have enemies or predators.

Ants start out as eggs. Then they turn to grubs. After that they turn into pupas. The last stage of their metamorphosis is the adult.

An ant can eat almost anything it could get to without dying. An ant can eat bread crackers and cookies. They also eat fungus, juices from other insects, juices from plants and honeydew. The worker ants get food and feed it to the queen and the rest of the colony.

Ants homes are called colonies. Some ant colonies are in a branch of a tree. Some live under rocks and some live in a crack in the sidewalk. Some live in the ground. Some could even live in a pile of wood.

Beetles are ants enemies. They have other enemies too like the spider, ladybugs, anteaters and wasps. Other ants can also be their enemies like the fire ant or the black ant. Woodpeckers and people are also ants enemies.

Ants talk with their antennae. Some ants squirt smelly acid when they're scared. They have simple eyes. The worker ant doesn't have wings, but when the queen becomes an adult it has wings.. Male ants have wings once they turn into an adult. Here's some of the different kinds of ants: weaver ants, leaf cutter ants, janitor ants, spinner ants, carpenter ants, red ants, black ants, bull dog ants, army ants, amazon ants, flying ants, fire ants, silver ants and honeymaker ants.

Ant Colonies

The body parts of the ant are, the abdomen, the thorax and the head. They have jaws and mandibles and they have six legs. They have no backbone which makes them invertebrates. They belong to the insect family.

The first part of their life cycle is the eggs. The ants that take care of the eggs lick the eggs to keep them warm. The eggs hatch and then they are larva. Then they have to spin a cocoon. A couple of weeks later they will be eating the cocoons and then they will be adult ants.

As an adult the ant eats a lot of lady bugs and they like worms and they like beetles. They also like to eat cockroaches. They like to eat spiders and lots of dead stuff. They bring it to the queen.

Their homes are made out of dirt and some of the workers are diggers. The other ants are throwing out the food, then they go to kill a bug and to the colony and they feed it to the workers that are digging. Ants have lots of enemies. They even have other ants as enemies. they have big enemies like the lady bug and they have very big enemies like the anteater and even human beings. They have small enemies like the bee, the worm and the fly.

Leaf cutter ants are in the forests and they cut parts of the leaves and they chew them up and make them into wax. They take the wax home and then they eat it. Ants come in different colors like black and red.

They have lots of jobs to do when they first come out of their cocoon. They will be a worker ant , then they will be a nurse ant. In a couple of weeks they'll be a soldier ant. And when they are done they collect bugs for the queen.

Ants store food in little storehouses. They go out and they die, that is how it is.
