Program used: Kid Pix
Time Needed: approximately 1 1/2 -2 hours
Activities:
1. Over several days, research with the class how animals survive during the winter. Various books and activities should be used to explore this topic.
2. As a class, make a chart listing animals that hibernate, migrate, store food, grow more fur, camouflage, etc. during the winter. (20 minutes)
3. Assign each pair one of the categories about animals in winter. Each pair will write two sentences about how animals survive the winter related to that topic. Students will illustrate their sentences using crayons, colored pencils, or markers. (45 minutes)
(One student should be assigned a cover page as well)
4. Edit students' sentences, correcting spelling, punctuation, and grammar.
Complete editing while students are illustrating.
5. Using Kid Pix, each pair will type and illustrate their sentences using their rough draft copy as a guide. (40 minutes)
6. When saving work, assign each picture a number (ex: winter 1, winter 2, etc.) and have students save in a shared folder with assistance. When all pictures are finished, they will already be numbered and in one location. Pictures are ready to be put onto the web page in numbered order as a book.
