Humuhumus have three different types of names. They are Trigger Fish , Humuhumunuknukuapua'a, and the Picasso Fish. Some people think the Humuhumu is an ugly, badly designed and a brainless looking fish of little value. Even the early Hawaiians didn't think much of the Humuhumu. The Hawaiians used dried Trigger fish for fire wood to cook their more tastier fish. Soon after they finally discovered that the Piccaso fish is a very interesting fish.
The Trigger fish got it's name by it's defense mechanism. When it is attacked or frightened it swims to it's nest or hole and erects the first dorsal, so it can not be removed.
