Two of our 5th grade classes worked with spreadsheets in creating puzzles. One class made crossword puzzles and the other did word search puzzles. Since the students had to start at the very beginning by creating the word lists and / or clues, this lesson actually took longer than the one hour period. This was the lesson that required the most editing and follow-up, however the students had a great time seeing how puzzles can be made from scratch.
