Students were inspired by the story to create their own balloon and house. They then wrote about the journey they could take in their balloon. A little research helped. They were given the following instructions:
Instructions for Building Your Balloon House
1. Your structure must be no larger than 6"high x 6"wide x 6"long
2. Keep your structure as light as possible.
3. You must use things you find around the house--no lego's or tinker toys
4. You may not spend more that $ 3.00
5. You must have a platform or have a plan to attach your house to your balloon
6. Your house must represent some country or culture (think about it) You will be writing about the place that your balloons lands.
Your grade will depend on detail , quality, and originality of work. Do the work yourself. This is not your parents' project . Your house is due on October 23. No late houses will be accepted Do not show your house to anyone. Do not bring it to school until that date. Bring it in a bag or box. We will make the paper mache balloons in class.
